Watching the night sky was one of her favo[u]rite things to do. Deaniva (pronounced dee-ann-ee-vuh) would lay back and stare up at the bright lights in the sky. To her, the night was more beautiful than the day. The sunshine was great, but it was so… uniform. With the night brought the moonlight and more importantly, the stars. These tiny bright lights were present all across the galaxy and with her eyes, she could see them. Not only were they magnificent for how far away they were, but they were all so unique.

He was staring up at the sky on a clear night. The sky was filled with stars and the moon, but that was not what was drawing Tinean’s (pronounced tin-ee-uhn) attention on this particular night. Instead, he was more preoccupied with a particular task that he had set out to do on this night. It was something that he had always done at least once a week, especially at night. He found that it was easier for him to imagine it during the night. Being outside was so clear and the space was empty, while being inside precipitated a feeling of being cramped. When night fell and took over from the bright sun, it made the sky seem like it went on forever.

It was just the nature of things and how the cycle went. The sky would be bright blue during the day, if there were no clouds, and if there were clouds, the sky would be some form of white or grey depending on the type of cloud. When the sun was setting, Oleacha got to see magnificent purples, oranges, and sometimes reds. More often than not, the sunset, in her experience, was no bigger deal than anything else in her life.

Clinbe (pronounced cline-bee) was sitting on one of the many green summits offered by this particular mountain on the island of Hawai’i. He had spent his entire life living on the Big Island, so he didn’t know what life was like on the ‘mainland,’ nor did he know what life used to be like on the mainland. His grandparents always used to tell him stories of what it was like raising his parents on the mainland. Times were very different back then.

Jovina (pronounced joe-vee-nah) loved to look up at the night sky. It was truly one of her favorite things to do. All day, she would think about what it was going to be like to sit atop her favorite rock that was smooth enough for her to lie back on and stare up at the night sky. Seeing those stars scattered across the sky made her feel like there was something more to existence than met the eye. There was just something about all of this light that permeated through the galaxy – travelling millions and millions of light years – until it reached her lying on the rock and more specifically, the rods and cones in her eye that allowed her to perceive light.
