The joy that he felt could be felt for miles and miles away. His pleasant disposition oozed into the air and onto the living things around him. He had spent his entire life living on the Big Island, so he didn’t know what life was like on the ‘mainland,’ nor did he know what life used to be like on the mainland. His grandparents always used to tell him stories of what it was like raising his parents on the mainland. Times were very different back then.

Jincoche (pronounced gin-co-chee) sat cross-legged on the grass. He was looking up at the sky. He saw white fluffy clouds separated by bright blue intermissions. It was something that he liked to do from time-to-time. Instead of looking at the background of a ‘picture,’ in this case, the sky, and seeing the objects dotting the background, he decided to look at the foreground as if it was the background and the background were really the foreground. Jincoche found that this really helped to expand his perception, especially with nature.
