(This Imagining is a continuation of the imagining started on June 14th, 2010, and can be found here: Birds Make the Most Incredible Music)

Panlinea continued to lay on the grass and listen to the birds singing their song. Hummingbirds, robins, cardinals, blue jays, orioles, herons – they were all so beautiful to listen to! Some, sung more with what seemed an intention to sound like music, while others were just squawking to claim their territory – which was normal. Listening as the birds remained steadfast in their singing, all of a sudden the birds stopped. Silence. No more birds were singing. Panlinea leaned up to see what was going on.

Wilinre (pronounced will-in-ree) sat cross-legged on the soft dirt as he looked out over the landscape. There was a gentle slope down towards where the beach was, but he couldn’t see the sand from where he sat. There was an abundance of trees gathered in the area obstructing the line of sight. However, he could see the ocean above the trees. He chuckled as from this perspective, it almost looked as if the ocean was on top of the trees, but he knew that not to be true from his experience swimming in the ocean. However, it was rather odd to him, to think that the ocean could be on top of the tree. Wilinre thought about this for a moment and then he made a decision.

They had already been hiking for a quite some time. They had passed all sorts of beautiful wonder along their way. They had seen flowers the size of beach-balls and seen plant leaves the size of tables. This place was beautiful. Wifren (pronounced we-freen) and his lovely partner Meliopa (pronounced mel-ee-oh-pa) loved to go for excursions away from their Hawai’i oasis. Yes, they had a lovely round home and wonderful acreage with which to explore, but there was something about trekking out into the unknown. Even though they had seen a fair bit of this garden island, they knew that they hadn’t seen it all.

Cullindia (pronounced cul-lin-dee-ya) loved all forms of music. She loved listening to the birds in the early morning as they chirped back and forth to each other; she loved listening to the wind saying hello to the trees and bustling the leaves; she loved listening to the waves as they crested to meet the shore. With the waves in particular, she liked when there was an abundance of rocks on the shore near to where the waves came in and out such that once the wave was on its way back to meet the rest of the water, it would rake down the rocks and move them. When the water moved these rocks, it would make, to Cullindia’s ears, music.

Panlinea (pronounced pan-lean-yah) sat quietly on the forest floor. The dawn was about 30 minutes away and she knew that this time of day was when all of the birds woke up to begin their chirping. It was one of her favorite things to do: wake up early enough to be awake before the birds such that she could hear all the birds wake up and make their music! And that is what she thought the birds were doing – making music.
