Olasine (pronounced oh-la-seen) had never heard of school or heard of education. She didn’t really know what they meant because she had never heard the words used before. However, that didn’t mean she was smart. The way that she was always taught to learn was through experience and by getting quiet. That is, when she was young, whenever she needed to know something, she would just get quiet and the answers to her questions would always come to her. She didn’t know that people in different parts of the world actually went to a place called school to learn about things for such long periods of time everyday.

Aroha walks through the doorway of her room onto the grass and pauses to let her feet feel the grass and for the grass to feel her feet. She closes her eyes and bends her head back, while stretching her arms out to the side, basking in the peaceful sun. Aroha notices a feeling in her stomach and recognizes it – hunger.

One of Ezobitri’s (e-zoe-bee-tree) favo(u)rite times was when she was able to walk through her garden and appreciate the abundance of plant-life. She loved to walk with her bare feet against the earthen soil and feel the moisture between her toes. These sensations always brought a smile to her face. She would take one step very slowly and carefully, so as to fully appreciate each step. Her heel would hit first to give her balance and then slowly, she would roll the outside of her foot all the way until her big toe. As each one of her toes landed individually, she would feel the soil migrating up between her toes and she would already be laughing before her big toe would hit the soil.
