He looked up at the sky as if to say, ‘thank you.’ It was how he started everyday – with gratitude. Ricando (pronounced ree-can-doh) was not quite sure when it began, but for as long as he could remember, when he would immerse from the hypnopompic state, he would directly look into the sky and give thanks. It wasn’t that he was thanking any particular person for any one thing, but just offering thanks in general. Gratitude was something that Ricando has always felt was an important part of one’s life and from his perspective, there wasn’t a better way to start the day than with thanks.

“Long ago,” her grandmother sighed, “people used to be confused by the weather.” Vinolia (pronounced vin-ole-ee-uh) looked puzzled. Her grandmother continued, “not completely confused, but almost distraught when the weather would behave in ways that they didn’t expect. Seasonally, of course, they were able to understand that there were different times of the year where different weather patterns were expected, but when there were times during the year that the weather didn’t obey the ‘laws’ that they thought the weather was supposed to act within, it was quite uneasy making.”

Milisina (pronounced mill-ah-seen-uh) was contemplating the reasons why she had stopped. She had been walking along the already trodden footpath when she had the sudden inclination to stop. When this happened, she usually knew that it had something to do with what was around her. Because of this, she quickly surveyed the area around her to see what was there. She noticed that there were an assortment of trees, ferns, sounds of birds and sounds of other animals that were nearby. There seemed to be nothing that was noteworthy of what she observed, so she continued to walk.

It was getting close to the time when she knew that she had to wake up. She was still sleeping, but she could sense that time was nearing when it would be optimal. She knew this because she would always have some sort of signal in her dream that it was close. Gorine (pronounced go-reen) slowly opened her eyes to see that it was still mostly dark outside. She had woken up before dawn, but that was alright. She knew that this was the time of day she was after.

Rinvulopia (pronounced rin-va-low-pea-uh) was a firm believer in her ability. More than that, she was a firm believer in her body. She knew that her body was able to take her to places she had never been and do things she had never imagined. Because of this, she knew that she needed to respect, honor, and care for her body the same way that she cared for her mind. And because of this, she was very astute at taking signals and messages from her body.
