It was getting close to the time when she knew that she had to wake up. She was still sleeping, but she could sense that time was nearing when it would be optimal. She knew this because she would always have some sort of signal in her dream that it was close. Gorine (pronounced go-reen) slowly opened her eyes to see that it was still mostly dark outside. She had woken up before dawn, but that was alright. She knew that this was the time of day she was after.

Gorine stretched her legs and her arms along the ground as if to wake them up and the energy. She gradually made her way to her feet so as to stretch her limbs out again, only while in a vertical position. She gazed up at the sky and knew that it was about the right time for the activity she had planned for this morning.

Every few days or so, her body seemed to want to wake up around 4am. She understood the principles why this was, but that didn’t make it any easier in the beginning. Since she had been doing it for quite some time now, it was becoming easier and easier – to wake up, that is. She began walking to where she usually took part in what she was planning on taking part in. This walk also served to help coerce the energy through her body. When she arrived at her usual spot, she took a seat and closed her eyes.

While she was still mostly relaxed, it had become almost ritualistic for her to go through the same relaxation process before what she was about to do. It was important to Gorine that her mind be clear of all negativity and that her body be in an optimal state of positivity. She knew that what she was about to do was going to have ramifications for the next few days, until she did this again, so she wanted to do it in what some may have called, the ‘right’ way.

Gorine was breathing. And not just the regular way that everyone breathes every second of every day. Gorine was taking intentional breaths. For some reason, she had gleaned the information from her body that it was optimal for her to really stretch her lungs at 4am. She wasn’t completely sure from a cognitive standpoint as to why this was, but it made sense in her body. When she would wake up at 4am and really breathe, she felt that she was able to take in more oxygen and expel more carbon dioxide.

She also felt like there was a lot of energy that was in her lungs when she did this. It was almost as if the energy in her lungs was at its peak at 4am. This, she could feel in her body. However, it wasn’t something that she would have thought out to do had her body not woken her up at 4am way back when.

As she breathed in the oxygen supplied from the trees, she equally breathed out carbon dioxide for them. Because she was doing this at 4am, the optimal time for the lungs, she was able to expel the bit of carbon dioxide deep down in her lungs that most people had a hard time getting rid of and it wasn’t because they didn’t try. It was just because they weren’t doing it during what could loosely be called “Lung Time.” When one does these exercises during lung time, they are tapping into something greater than their material body. They are tapping into the energy that is flowing to the lungs. This excess energy makes it easier to breathe deeper and longer.

So there Gorine sat. It was just after 4am and she was using her lungs to their full capacity. She couldn’t think of anything else she’d rather be doing on a cool summer, spring, winter, or fall morning. She was using the wisdom of her body to better serve her body. A wonderful co-existence.

What a wonderful little story about meditating and becoming aware of your own breathing! I felt that I was relaxing as I was reading it 🙂 Thank you for sharing.

I suppose the story does allude to meditation. When I was imagining (or seeing) what was happening to Gorine, meditation never came to mind as a description, but after having been prompted with the word in your comment, I can totally see it.

I’m glad you could feel a sense of connection with Gorine in this ‘imagining.’ 🙂
Hopefully, you’ll find that same sense of connection with some of the other people in some of the other imaginings. 😉

With Love and Gratitude,

The Intentional Sage
