Mavinci (pronounced ma-vin-chee) loved to swim. Whenever she would get into the water, be it a stream, river, lake, or the ocean, it was as if she was a fish. There was something about the connection that Mavinci shared with the water that became quite evident once she was emerged in it – or maybe more accurately – merged with it. Not only was it clear to anyone who happened to be so lucky to see Mavinci swim, but she also felt it, too. When she swam, she knew that something was going on. She knew that there was more to what was happening then what she could see with her eyes.
She felt it. She felt it in her skin when she swam. There was some kind of energy or maybe energy exchange that she was part of because she was in the water. She had this feeling more often when she was in the ocean, but it was still present when she was in the other bodies of water. There was something about the ocean, though, that she couldn’t quite put her finger on.
On this particular day, Mavinci was really looking forward to swimming in the ocean. When she was finished what she felt like she had to be doing up near where she lived, she immediately began running down to the beach. She ran up the hill and down the hill. She ran through the forest and around the mountain. All the while, not stopping until she reached her destination – ocean. When her feet touched the sand, a smile rose on her face. She ran just a little faster, disrobing in the process, and then . . .
She was in the water. Everything was right again. The world was whole, at least Mavinci’s was. She was back where she knew she belonged – in the water. She was back with the waves. Mavinci swam and swam and swam. She wanted to really get out into the ‘heart’ of the ocean today, so she did just that.
The farther out she got, the more prevalent the feeling was that she usually had when she got in the water. She didn’t want to use her mind to think too much, so she just accepted that what was happening was beyond comprehensible, and then enjoyed it. She just let her body enjoy being in the water because it undeniably did.
As she continued to swim farther out to sea, she decided that she was going to relax for a little bit. She turned over onto her back, such that she could float and stare up into the clear blue sky. She let the waves gently rock her to and fro as she relaxed deeper into what she was feeling. That feeling that she had when she was in the ocean – there was something to it. As she relaxed deeper and deeper, she started to hear something, but she wasn’t sure what.
She maintained her sense of relaxation as she began attempting to discern what it was that she was hearing. She wasn’t sure, but she knew it had to be something. She knew that she couldn’t be hallucinating. And there it was again. This was very puzzling to Mavinci. She had never heard these sounds before – at least, not like this. There was something familiar to them, but at the same time, not so familiar. The intensity of the sound and the proximity of the sound began to get closer by the minute. Where first, it was quite faint and sounded far away, not it sounded as if it were about 100 feet away and it was getting closer! Mavinci wasn’t sure what to do. She knew that it was best for her to stay relaxed, so that was what she did.
As she relaxed more and more, it was almost as if that was speeding up the sound. It was quite puzzling. She would relax, and the sound seemed to get closer and faster. Mavinci thought that whatever this sound was, it was surely on its way to come and see her. Now the sound seemed to be right next to her head! Mavinci decided that it was time to open her eyes and just as she did. . .
Something sprang from the water on the right side of her body and vaunted over Mavinci and landed in the water on the left side of her body. Mavinci wondered what the heck that was! Her eyes were still adjusting to the light when she opened them, so she couldn’t quite make out what it was. Then, another! Just as the one before, it jumped from the right side of Mavinci’s body and landed to the left of her body. This time, she was able to see what it was!
Mavinci thought that this was just wonderful! Now she knew why she recognized the sound. She had dreamed about the sounds that dolphins had made, but she had never actually heard them with her own ears, or so she thought.
With that, she dove down into the water and attempted to spring out like the dolphins did. The dolphins seemed to almost laugh and then one of them disappeared down under the water. Mavinci was treading water and then she felt something pushing up on one of her feet. All at once, she was lifted up out of the water, like what she had seen the dolphins do, jumped off what was holding her up and dove back into the water. It was a dolphin! A dolphin had lifted her up. It was as if the dolphin had her what she was thinking and decided to assist in her endeavor.
Mavinci continued playing with the dolphins for quite some time. She did jumps, twists, tricks, and all sorts of fun things. Because Mavinci was quite comfortable with the water, she really had lots of fun playing with the dolphins. When it was nearly dark, Mavinci knew that she should go back to the shore, so she held onto one of the dolphin’s fin as swam really fast – back to the shore. This made Mavinci smile. She had never been able to swim that fast or go that fast before on the water. The dolphin stopped about 100 feet from the shore. Mavinci swam around to the front of the dolphin to look it in the eye and say thank you (with her mind). When she did this, the dolphin winked.
