“Long ago,” her grandmother sighed, “people used to be confused by the weather.” Vinolia (pronounced vin-ole-ee-uh) looked puzzled. Her grandmother continued, “not completely confused, but almost distraught when the weather would behave in ways that they didn’t expect. Seasonally, of course, they were able to understand that there were different times of the year where different weather patterns were expected, but when there were times during the year that the weather didn’t obey the ‘laws’ that they thought the weather was supposed to act within, it was quite uneasy making.”

Looking up at the size of this great entity was breathtaking. From where he stood, he could not see the top of its glorious-ness. All he knew was that it went up and up and up! The rigid peaks stretching up to the sky covered in all sorts of vegetation colo[u]red green. He had never seen anything so beautiful. His ideas about mountains always contained images of rocks, steep valleys, and maybe some snow on top. He had never imagined there were mountains that were covered in plants and greens. As he reflected on it, of course there would be mountains like this. Mountains that occur closer to the equator wouldn’t be likely to have snowy seasons, but rain that would last for days and days – ergo, vegetation.

She watched as the bird soared high above the sky. Its wingspan was a sight to see. In gazing upon the bird, Brina (pronounced breen-uh) realized that it didn’t even seem that the bird was flying. It looked more like the bird was gliding through the air. Almost as if it was just riding the air currents and exerting the least amount of strength possible to propel itself. It was remarkable to watch how it twisted and turned hardly ever flapping its wing to move itself as most other birds that Brina had seen. From what she could understand, it seemed that most birds flapped their wings to move, but this one, this one just glided.

One of his favo[u]rite places to be was near the ocean. There was something magical for him about being by something so great. Not great in the subjective sense, but great in the physical sense. The absolute magnitude commanded by the ocean was beyond comprehension. It was everywhere – really – everywhere. While there were different names for it in different places, it occupied a great deal of space on the planet. Hilio (pronounced hee-lee-oh) would spend hours staring out into the ocean to ponder the wonder of its unwavering ways. The ocean was big, there was no doubt about it, but to Hilio, there was more to it than its size.
